surprise studio

It's FotoWeek DC, so there are a lot of events happening around the District. My hectic work and class schedule has unfortunaetly kept me from attending any of them so far. But there are a lot of exhibitions and talks I want to check out. One on photophilanthropy, specifically, as I figure out what are the best tools I have to affect people. I'm still not sure. Does making beautiful things count? Art? How much of what I do is art? How much of it is documentary? And which do I want it to be? That's the clincher. ANYWAY, I was wandering downtown DC and popped into the gorgeous Leica store. For FotoWeek they had a mini studio set up with their digital medium-format camera, the S System. A handful of photographers were watching and waiting to have a go with the two soft-boxes. I couldn't pass it up. The S was incredible to shoot with, if much heavier than I'm used to, and the images were amazing. It was crazy fun to be in a studio setting again after so long, and I really enjoyed working with the lovely model. I can foresee a future in a more editorial sector of the industry in which I require a beautiful camera like that, but for now I'll just have to drool from afar and work towards that life (if that's what I decide I want). And maybe buy this little lady. The people at Leica were kind enough to let me drop one onto an SD card that I had with me. SOC, baby. leica s-1
