When the Stars Go Out

I got a bit of a last-minute email from my pal Gwen that a workshop production she was in at Flashpoint was hoping to get production photos taken within a couple of days. Thankfully we were able to work it out and I went and shot a dress rehearsal for the gang.

When I got to the theatre I was thrilled to find out it was a workshop of a Stephen Spotswood play, "When the Stars Go Out." I quite enjoy his writing and have actually even worked with him before (back when I was still the one onstage). And although it's tough to pay attention to the intricacies of plot, character and theme while behind the camera, I am a huge sci-fi fan and always love to see that sensibility woven into theatre.

It was great fun. Also, these are the first shots using my new tripod -- I will never go back!

labor day weekend

I spent a lovely couple of days in Leonardtown, MD and environs with fellow photographers Jess and Amy over the holiday weekend.

There was lots of open space to shoot, crops in fields, boats in the bay. Monday we were up before the sun and off to Solomon Island to catch the first hints of pink on the horizon.

Landscape and nature photography are far from being my first loves. They are not muscles I flex very often. And when looking through the camera find myself more often than not just pressing the shutter with a bit of a shrug, unsure of what I'll get. Amy and Jess, on the other hand, happen to be very good at it.

So I tried to find my own way in.
