on day jobs
I've been one of those lucky people who, even though I am often bored silly by my day job, have met some super wonderful people while working there. On Friday a couple of us sat outside and ate sushi.
I like these people a lot. Also those not pictured (you know who you are!). And without my super boring day job I would never have met them. So I am thankful for the existence of boring day jobs.
And edamame.

Shall I Compare...
I used to do this little thing called theatre. I'm pretty good at it. And it moves me. It, however, is one of those things for which you need other people. Especially when you're a director, as I am. That's probably a large part of why I've turned to photography. It doesn't require like-minded souls to collaborate with. If you're shooting people, you need only bodies who want to have their picture taken. And these days that's like, everyone. Also, I still know some theatre people, and they're especially good at having their picture taken.
So, I shot a lovely little Capital Fringe show today! Adam Segaller got in contact and wanted a few shots of his 1 man show, "Shall I Compare Thee to a Purple Haze." He was a swell fella and definitely fun to shoot. I was a little nervous since I've only ever shot my own shows before. But this was actually WAY easier! And he had props. I love a good prop.
Here are some of my favorites of Adam looking like a rock star with surprise guest, Lisa!

first critique
Thursday evening during class we had our first critique. I was a bit nervous, especially since the Director of Photography was sitting in for our instructor on the critique. And to have his first interaction with us be so early on in our education. His criticism of my shots was definitely helpful, and while I still have a tendency to be defensive first, I recognize that he's a pro and sort of knows what he's a talking about. So I made a couple of changes, tweaked some things afterwards. In the end it was really great to have a professional talk to me and make statements about something I made and I put work into. I've missed that.
